I took an opportunity to go and meet The Man, The
Legend, ' Eddy B', today. Although most of us just have smelly socks
at the end of our legs, Eddy's leg-end is far more. And how he can
fit it all in to that Hobbit hole apartment is amazing. Everywhere
you look is blues treasures one can only dream about. Thank you Eddy
for your hospitality today, a wonderful chat about music and life,
and a copy of one of your Limited Edition Blueheart Archive Photos.
I look forward to the opportunity to get more in the coming series
to help this fine gentleman and artist continue with his work.

Just want to say I purchased a batch
of prints off Mr. Eddy Brake recently. They arrived in the
mail today and they are truly remarkable shots. They're already up
on the wall charting some magnificent chapters of the golden age of
the blues.
This keeps up, I'm gonna have to open/build a new wing. it'll be
worth it.
cheers

Like him or dislike him, Eddy B is one of the people who make a
local blues scene possible or at least tangible. He's out there
documenting the musicians, the clubs, the people, and the artifacts
of blues culture. He makes images of this stuff, he writes about it,
grieves over it, nurtures it, collects it and loves it. Without
people like Eddy it all becomes here-say, rumor, legend, or is
forgotten. Eddy takes the music we perform, interpret and
create, and all the stuff around it - our strange little world - and
bonds it to a broader historical and cultural context. Many nights
he's the only guy out there with a camera, snapping away, sometimes
moving from club to club. Recordings only sample the scene in a
limited kind of way. As time goes on Eddy's photographic work,
writing, and research will become more and more significant -
not just to Toronto but I think also internationally. I wish all the
blues fans who are generous, cool and smart enough to buy indy blues
recordings would also purchase an occasional print from Eddy. We
blues musicians are a dime a dozen (or ten cents per each12 bars!),
while documentarians are few and far between. I hope Eddy is able to
continue doing what he does for many more years. Purchasing an art
print from him is a way of strengthening our blues culture and
history.

When you go to Eddy B's Blueheart Archive site be prepared to
'take-a-lunch' as Eddy, thorough musicologist that he is, packs more
info and great historic photos onto his website than anyone else we
know of. Eddy has committed his life to promoting Blues yet he
refuses to exploit or profit from it. So major 'Brownie Points' (Bluie
Points?) for Eddy B!

I thank all who have helped me
identify Canadian harmonica players. It has helped my research and
saved me hours and hours of 'surfing' for the names and titles.
Especially Eddy's help. As a consummate 'Bluesman', his value to the
Canadian Blues scene is immeasurable. He is a true treasure.
