The record starts
with the rockin’ R&B number “Shake ‘Em Up Baby” then rolls
into a kool version of Carl Perkins’ classic “Matchbox”.
Next up, Greg’s instrumental, “Fairmont Stomp” which takes
you back into a previous era. Eddie Taylor’s 1957 Vee-Jay
track “Lookin’ For Trouble” gives some straight ahead Chicago
Blues. “Goldtop” reminds me of the time when there were
numerous guitar surf instrumentals around in the early 60s. Another
one of Greg’s tunes, “Someday, Someway”, drives along complete
with a fine solo from him. The Blues knocks on the door once again
in “Somebody New” with Greg blowin’ the harp work on this
cut. A new mood is felt in the instrumental, “Mole’ Mambo”.
Things start to R ’n’ R on “Trucker From Tennessee” with horn
section and steel guitar and Greg out in front of everything. “When
My Love Comes Down” is a one of those songs I describe as
‘haunting’. The instrumental “Down Yonder” has Greg wailin’
away once again. “Baby You Gone’ and is hard hittin’
Rockabilly with a tinge of the Blues. The CD ends with another
rocker "Kissin’ Fool”. Whew! This release with
different vibes really took hold of me. Hot guitar, tight band, what
more can a music lover ask for! Greg Demchuk & the Du-Rite Aces
“deal me in”, pick this recording up and after one listen you’ll agree Greg
is one of the great guitarists in Canada or anywhere.
